Stretching 469 beautiful miles, the Blue Ridge Parkway stretches from the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. The scenery is spectacular and there are numerous recreational opportunities along the way. You can enjoy everything from camping and hiking to biking to fishing. One of the most popular times of year to make the journey is in the fall when the leaves begin to change. It’s a sight you won’t ever forget.
Dogs are certainly welcome to explore the areas around the Parkway with you. However, you must have your four-legged friend on a leash at all times, especially on the hiking trails.
The best time of year to take the drive is also the busiest. In the fall, the orange sassafras, golden poplars, and scarlet sourwoods are in full bloom and everyone wants to witness the magical colors. You definitely won’t regret it.
